1919-1926:  Attended P.S. 150, P.S. 109, P.S. 66, Brooklyn, New York
1930:  Graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School, Brooklyn, New York
1934:  Graduated from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York, with major in
                English and minor in Education
1934-35:  Worked for the Conservation Civilian Corps (CCC), along with brother Max, in Death Valley, CA (as part of road construction gang) and the Montana National Park (felling trees burned in forest fires)
1935-1936:  Teacher of Remedial Reading, Works Project Administration (WPA),
            New York City
1937-1938:  Grade School Teacher, Arroyo,, Puerto Rico
1938-1940: Teacher of Adult  Education, WPA, New York City; taught English to
foreign-born.  Also worked on the WPA Federal Writers Project (“New York City Guide Book”)
1940:  Article about RF appears in PM: News of Labor and Unemployment:
            “American Boy: He Went From Campus to CCC to WPA”
1940-1941:  Payroll Typist, The U.S.  Army Engineers, San Juan, Puerto Rico
January 1942-June 1942:  Instructor in English, The University of Puerto Rico, Rio
            Piedras, Puerto Rico
1942-1946:  Professor of English Literature and Language, University of Panama,  
    Panama City,  Republic  of Panama
1947:  Received M.A. from Harvard University
1947-1948:  Instructor of English, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA
June 1948:  Sailed for France, intending to stay for the summer only
1949-1950:  Principal, U.S. Army School, Munich, Germany
August 1950:  Decided to visit  Israel “for a few months.” 
August 1950-December 1950:  Worked and studied Hebrew in a kibbutz for two
            months, then studied Hebrew at an “Ulpan”
January 1951-July 1951:  Jerusalem Post, Jerusalem, Israel
July 1951-1978:  Instructor in English Language and Literature, Hebrew 
            University, Jerusalem, Israel
1954-1955: Attended Cambridge University, Cambridge, England; studied Moral
            Sciences
1970:  Awarded Ph.D. from Hebrew University
1979-1984, Associate Professor in English Language and Literature, Hebrew
            University, Jerusalem, Israel
1984:  Retired from Hebrew University
January 12, 1998:  Died of cancer in Jerusalem
